Jill Paxton

I have worked in women’s rights within the charity sector all my life. When I had my first baby I became acutely aware of how vulnerable I was as a pregnant woman and how susceptible I was to coercion and manipulation. I planned a homebirth with my first but transferred to hospital during labour. For my second homebirth I hired a doula and by the time I was pregnant with my third baby, I had trained to be a doula myself.

Training

I trained in 2016 with Red Tent Doulas where my passion for holistic support of families and strong advocacy for women’s rights was nurtured. I have since supported many families on their journeys to parenthood. I helped run a positive birth group in Hastings and together with other Doulas we supported and educated many women and couples.

Supportive

Every birth is unique and every person is unique which is why I will always support you in your own birth choices. Of course you can see that homebirth holds a special place in my heart but that’s not to say that I don’t love other births – my favourite kind of birth will ALWAYS be one where the person feels fully loved, supported and empowered.

Inclusive

I am also trained as a post-natal doula and have also completed the LGBTQ+ competency course with The Queer Birth Club. I’m committed to continuous professional development as and when I feel it is necessary.
